Origin breaking ground on three homes in Jefferson

Origin Homes, a homebuilder based out of West Des Moines, is breaking ground on three homes on infill lots throughout the City of Jefferson.

Origin plans to build their Chesney and Cline floorplans on the lots starting this summer with homes completing by fall. The homes, which will be located along Lincoln Way and N. Vine Streets, will feature 3-and 4-bedrooms, two car garages and fully finished basements.

"Jefferson presented a fantastic opportunity to reimagine how infill lots can be repurposed throughout the city. Our team always says we have to think creatively to build differently, and it's been a great experience working alongside the City of Jefferson, chamber and Greene County Development to get these going," said Matt Daniels, Director of Operations for Origin Homes.

The homes are expected to all sell for under $300,000, with starting prices at $294,500.

"Origin Homes has been a great partner. Their track record of providing fantastic homes is admirable and their staff is great to work with. We’re excited to begin construction, and we look forward to having these high-quality homes in our community for many, many decades to come," said Scott Peterson, Jefferson's City Administrator.

Origin Homes is a primarily custom homebuilder, focusing on building on rural land, farms and lots across Iowa, as one of the only homebuilders with no travel restrictions. In 2023, Origin saw an opportunity to add more housing to rural communities and added their Rural Housing Initiative focus.

"Building completely custom homes on farm ground is our bread and butter. But to get to those places, we were driving through smaller communities, and it was evident more needed to be done to keep these great towns around and thriving. We're proud to play a small part in helping rural Iowa growing," said Daniels.

Origin is also building five homes in Knoxville's Veterans District, and five homes in Conrad as part of their ongoing Rural Housing Initiative, aimed at building homes in rural communities across Iowa to improve the housing market. Conrad, Jefferson and Knoxville were selected as the second round of communities in this initiative. Origin has built previously in Knoxville, Manning and Gowrie in 2023-2024. Workforce housing tax credits, awarded from the Iowa Economic Development Authority, will be used to help offset the costs of the homes to homebuyers.

Origin says if interested buyers reserve a home in advance, finishes, siding colors and more can be customized inside and outside of the home.
