Hubbell’s new Edison condos in downtown Des Moines give you the perfect opportunity to leave the car in the garage and enjoy Des Moines without the traffic. Sitting just south of Martin Luther King Jr Parkway with access to all of downtown’s entertainment districts, here are just a few of the countless places to walk or bike.
Restaurants
If you haven’t been to St. Kilda, drop what you are doing and head over! A full-service Australian restaurant with amazing food options (anyone want avocado toast or salmon and eggs?), not to mention coffee and pastries, this location is sure to satisfy. At just a 5-minute walk from Edison, working through the menu should be easy enough.
Walk for just a little bit longer and you will run into other Des Moines staples, including Hessen Haus and Spaghetti Works. Grab a classic pretzel or bratwurst from Hessen Haus or enjoy “the boot” with a group of friends at this German bier hall. Be prepared to make a fool of yourself when trying to order beer (the names are all in German) and to be astonished by the quality and flavor of all the options. Spaghetti Works is a great place for the hungry pasta-lover. Enjoy the “boundless bowls” of pasta and try every sauce and pasta option even on your first trip. Of course, Garlic bread and the salad bar are included with every boundless pasta order.
Is breakfast more your thing? Walk over to ChuChu Donuts for a customized donut. With many different cream and jelly options (including “Chocolate Fluffy” and “Vanilla Fluffy”) you are sure to leave full. You never have to worry about an old donut either, all the donuts are made fresh daily! And don’t forget to try a Cronut, a delicious mix of croissant and donut. Checkout ChuChu Donuts and look forward to having easy access from Edison.
As if these options aren’t enough, also within walking distance are Hubbell’s new LINC apartments with new businesses at the street level. Try Craft Bru when it opens summer 2021, with 80 craft beers from around the Midwest on tap, Craft Bru is sure to be a hit. A couple doors down from Craft Bru is the new location for the Mad Meatball. At its new location, the Mad Meatball will have ample seating, both indoors and outdoors, and of course, pizza!

Speaking of food, the Des Moines Farmer’s Market is a short walk from Edison. Meaning not only do you have the opportunity to enjoy fresh, local produce, eggs, meat, and more, but you can also skip the traffic and parking that comes with the Farmer’s Market. While you’re downtown, walk around the East Village and shop at the local stores. And when you need groceries, the downtown Hy-Vee is a short walk from Edison.
