2021 Hubbell Extreme Build

Hubbell Realty Company is thrilled to be returning to Easterseals Iowa Camp Sunnyside for our fifth Hubbell Extreme Build – Care for Kids September 10-17, 2021! With the help of our dedicated trades and volunteers, we will build a brand new 13,000-square-foot child development center for children six weeks to 5 years old (infants through Pre-K), doubling their capacity from 60 kids to 120! The seven-day 24/7 build will also include a new parking lot and playground for Easterseals Iowa families and staff.

When ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition’s cast and crew approached Hubbell about rebuilding a local family’s home after a Christmas Day fire, the answer was an immediate yes. With the help of trades, TV crew magic and Hubbell, a family in Tama County was able to return home to a bran- new house, new barns and was set for success.

9 Homes in 9 Days for 9 Families: Together with Des Moines’ Anawim Housing, Hubbell and nearly 50-plus trades built nine homes in nine days for nine families in the MLK Jr. King neighborhood. These rowhomes were an affordable, new construction home that still stand today. Through the process, we forged many new friendships that have led to additional downtown housing opportunities.

Cabins for Campers: Hubbell’s first debut at Easterseals Iowa was in 2013 when we tore down and rebuilt two 7,000 square foot cabins for their summer campers! These outdated buildings were replaced with new cabins, bunks, storage and restroom facilities that were more accessible for everyone, campers and staff. This build was a rainy one but our teams and trades managed to finish in just under one week!

Ronald McDonald House – Keeping More Families Close: This was our most extreme build to date! With over 100 trade partners, our teams tore down the outdated Ronald McDonald House of Central Iowa and made way for a state-of-the-art facility that can now house 20 families who rely on Blank Children’s Hospital, PICU and NICU. The build took 11 days of 24-hour-around-the-clock work to finish on time! The house now has 20 rooms, each with a private bath, staff offices, two kitchens, additional parking, a Variety The Children’s Charity sponsored playground and more access for families in need.
