HUBBELL HOMES RECOGNIZES ARTISTS OF THE FUTURE ON DES MOINES ARTS FESTIVAL MAIN STAGE

Des Moines, IA (June 22, 2016) – The Des Moines Arts Festival will celebrate more than 400 young Iowa artists at the Visionary Artists Ceremony, presented by Hubbell Homes, at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, June 25, on the Hy-Vee Main Stage. This is Hubbell’s 14th year as a sponsor of the event and the first year it will be held on the Festival’s main stage.

Hubbell Homes, Des Moines Arts Center and Des Moines Arts Festival come together to host Nurturing a Student’s Vision Student Art Exhibition (SAE) at the Des Moines Arts Festival which spotlights the creativity of children K-12 attending schools in central Iowa through a special exhibition on-site at the Festival and for the six weeks after the festival at the Des Moines Central Library.

This year’s Visionary Artists Ceremony will recognize the artistic achievements of 437 students from 111 elementary, junior high and high schools.

“Art and creativity are things to be celebrated, and the artists we recognize are the future creative talents that will drive our city and our state forward,” said Rick Tollakson, President and CEO of Hubbell Realty Company. “The students and their teachers deserve recognition for their passion, creativity, and dedication to their art.”

The Des Moines Community Playhouse will open the Visionary Artists Ceremony at 11 a.m. with excerpts from their summer musical, “Rock of Ages.” Remarks from Stephen King, Executive Director of Des Moines Arts Festival, and Tollakson will follow before each student is called on stage and presented with a medal of achievement. In addition, each student will receive a household membership to the Des Moines Art Center. The Student Art Exhibition display, located at the corner of 13th and Locust streets, can be viewed during regular Festival hours on Friday, June 24 from 11 a.m.-10 p.m., Saturday, June 25 from 11 a.m.-10 p.m., and Sunday, June 26 from 11 a.m.-5 p.m.

SAE culminates with a reception at 6 p.m. Wednesday, August 31, at the Central Library. Hubbell Homes awards five participating teachers $250 for art supplies and cash prizes for students in attendance.
