West Des Moines, Iowa (August 24, 2016) – Leaders from Mercy College, Hubbell Realty Company, Newbury Living, and the local community joined together to break ground on two new apartment living options yesterday in Downtown Des Moines.

“Des Moines is on the map in a big way,” Ward III Councilwoman Christine Hensley said of the two projects. “There is no place in the country that has a better public-private partnership.”

Hubbell and Newbury saw the opportunity to provide convenient and modern living options to the growing downtown population and to capitalize on the location of another downtown neighborhood.

From Hubbell comes VUE Apartments, 111 units of one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments located at the intersection of Eighth and Crocker. “These apartments are going to be a fantastic option for anyone wanting to be downtown,” Kris Saddoris, Vice President Development at Hubbell Realty Company, said. “They will offer magnificent views of Des Moines, incredible amenities, and access to everything downtown Des Moines offers. This new neighborhood also provides a great new living option for residents working downtown.”

The event drew nearly 50 people to hear from Hubbell and Mercy as well as city leaders on the specific plans for the two new living options.

The two developments together will offer 197 total units to downtown and access to the entertainment, dining, and biking trails in and around the downtown core.

Both developments will play an integral role in expanding the reach of downtown and providing quality living options to area residents and students.
