West Des Moines, IA (June 15, 2018) – Hubbell Realty Company continues to make great progress toward making industrial, office, residential and apartment buildings more energy efficient and environmentally sustainable.
Most recently, two buildings in Riverpoint Office Park, measuring at 40,080 and 36,071 square feet, were named Energy Star Certified by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). These properties rank in the top 15 percentiles of buildings throughout the nation. These two Energy Star Certifications alone improve Des Moines overall ranking to #5 for Mid-Sized Cities, joining others like San Jose, California, Virginia Beach, Virginia, Louisville, Kentucky and Raleigh, North Carolina. Year to year, from 2016 to 2017, Hubbell saved a total of 16,689 kilowatts and $1,014 in energy costs at these two properties.
“We are extremely proud of our progress when it comes to building and maintaining sustainable buildings. As a real estate company, we can improve the places where Iowan’s live and work each day,” said Alex Broderick, Senior Property Manager at Hubbell.
Hubbell continues energy initiatives included in the Hubbell Sustainability Plan, enacted in 2017. This plan includes prairie burns, planting of native landscaping in communities and other efforts to focus on economic and environmentally-friendly initiatives.
According to the EPA, Energy Star Certified buildings use an average of 35 percent less energy and fewer greenhouse gas emissions. Being an Energy Star certified building means protection for the environment, lower operating costs as well as higher occupancy rates.
