Hubbell Realty Company is proud to announce Easterseals Iowa, a local organization providing services to people with disabilities and special needs and their families, as the recipient of the 2020 Hubbell Extreme Golf Charity Classic as well as the 2021 Hubbell Extreme Build.
The 2021 Hubbell Extreme Build will take place at the Easterseals Des Moines’ campus located off of 66th Avenue in Des Moines. Together, with many trade partners and with lead local architecture firm SVPA, Hubbell will build a 12,300 square foot early education center serving children age six weeks to kindergarten. The space will have designated areas for infants, toddlers, two and three year olds, Pre-K rooms, a room focused on improving motor skills as well as a space for teachers and staff.
“Easterseals is extremely grateful for Hubbell’s support and belief in our mission. The commitment of their team members and partners has allowed us to increase our ability to serve our clients and families. Easterseals has been providing integrated childcare services to our community for over 15 years. This gift will allow us to increase our enrollment, doubling the number of children and families we can provide high quality, integrated care, filling a desperate need in central Iowa,” said Easterseals President & CEO Director Sherri Neilsen.
The facility will cost roughly $2.5 million and, in true Hubbell Extreme Build fashion, will take roughly one week to build. Hubbell and its trade partners will contribute aproximately half of the project cost as an in-kind donation toward the project.
“The Extreme Build is something we look forward to every four years. Hubbell is a longtime supporter of the initiative and meaningful work done at Easterseals and we came to the consensus very quickly that this is who we wanted to support again in 2021. Our 2013 Extreme Build was called ‘Cabins for Campers’ after we built two-7,500 square foot Easterseals lodges in just one week for all aged campers to use,” said Hubbell President and CEO Rick Tollakson. “We’re looking forward to kicking off the Extreme Build a little early with fundraising starting in August of this year at our Hubbell Extreme Golf event!”
All proceeds of this year’s Hubbell Extreme Golf Charity Classic will go toward the 2021 Build.
Hubbell Extreme Charity Golf Classic History: The Hubbell Extreme Charity Golf Classic has been held in 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2018 and 2019. This day-long event features golf, raffle and door prizes as well as hole prizes along the course with nearly 300 golfers participating each year. This year, the outing will be held at Woodland Hills Golf Course, a Hubbell-owned course just a half-mile from the Easterseals camp. The golf classic is held on the years when Hubbell is not participating in a Hubbell Extreme Build and in 2019, participants raised $52,000 for local organizations. The 2020 Hubbell Extreme Charity Golf Classic will be held on Thursday, August 27.
Hubbell Extreme Build History: In 2017, Hubbell tore down and rebuilt the Central Iowa Ronald McDonald House in 11 days, creating fifty percent more space for families using the NICU, PICU and Blank Children’s Hospital at UnityPoint Health in downtown Des Moines. Other extreme builds included: Cabins for Campers with Easterseals in 2013 with two 7,500 square foot cabins added to the facility; 9 Homes for 9 Families in 9 Days with Sister Stella O-Neil and Anawim Housing in 2009 adding affordable rowhomes to the MLK Jr. neighborhood; and finally, the original build started in 2006 with ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition rebuilding a home for a local family in Tama County.
