(June 6, 2019) Ames, IA - On Thursday, the Iowa Association of Business and Industry named Rick Tollakson, President and CEO of Hubbell Realty Company, as the awardee of ABI Foundation's 2019 Leadership for Iowa Award.
This award is presented annually to an alumnus of the Leadership Iowa program who exemplifies outstanding leadership in the community and in the state of Iowa. This award is presented during ABI's Annual Taking Care of Business Conference in Ames, Iowa. The nominees must demonstrate a commitment to the state, have held a leadership role in a local or statewide volunteer service to civic or professional organizations and be involved in projects that enhance the quality of life in Iowa.
Tollakson was nominated primarily based on his leadership and forethought on the 2017 Hubbell Extreme Build, which tore down and rebuilt the outdated Ronald McDonald House in downtown Des Moines. More than 100 trade partners and many community leaders came together to raise or donate nearly $3 million for the project, which was finished in just 11 days. The new house now has 18 rooms with private bathrooms, multiple kitchens, more parking and space for families who are staying at the nearby Blank Children's Hospital or using the PICU/NICU facilities within the hospital's campus. The Ronald McDonald House helps nearly 300,000 people in and around central Iowa each year and its impact continues to grow.
