Hubbell raises $56,500 for Easterseals Iowa during Extreme Golf event

Hubbell Realty Company is proud to announce $56,500 has been donated to Easterseals Iowa through the 2020 Hubbell Extreme Charity Golf Classic, presented by Plumb Supply Company and Kohler, held on August 27.

The money donated to Easterseals Iowa will help build a 12,300 square foot early education center serving children age six weeks to kindergarten. The space will have designated areas for infants, toddlers, two and three year old's, Pre-K rooms, a room focused on improving motor skills as well as a space for teachers and staff. This early education center has also been named the 2021 Hubbell Extreme Build project which is held every four years.

“Easterseals is extremely grateful for Hubbell’s support and belief in our mission.  The commitment of their team members and partners has allowed us to increase our ability to serve our clients and families.  Easterseals has been providing integrated childcare services to our community for over 15 years.  This gift will allow us to increase our enrollment, doubling the number of children and families we can provide high quality, integrated care, filling a desperate need in central Iowa,” said Easterseals President & CEO Director Sherri Neilsen.

The 2021 Hubbell Extreme build daycare facility will cost roughly $2.5 million and, in true Hubbell Extreme Build fashion, will take an estimated 7 days to build. Hubbell and its trade partners will contribute approximately half of the project cost as an in-kind donation toward the project.

The Hubbell Extreme Charity Golf Classic has been held in 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2018, 2019 and 2020. This day-long event features two flights of golf at Woodland Hills Golf Course, raffle prizes as well as hole prizes along the course. Raffle prizes were conducted virtually this year alongside many other enhanced sanitary and socially distancing measures due to COVID-19.

“This year was different than the previous tournaments, but we proved that through our great, local partnerships with trades, organizations, families and friends, we can truly make an impact. We are so proud that we accomplished yet another record-breaking year of fundraising for Easterseals,” said Hubbell President & CEO Rick Tollakson.

The golf classic is held on the years when Hubbell is not participating in a Hubbell Extreme Build. In 2017, Hubbell tore down and rebuilt the Ronald McDonald House in 11 days, creating fifty percent more space for families using the NICU, PICU and Blank Children’s Hospital at UnityPoint Health in downtown Des Moines. Other extreme builds included: Cabins for Campers with Easter Seals in 2013; 9 Homes in 9 Days for 9 Families with Anawim Housing in 2009 and the original build in 2006 with ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.

“The Extreme Build is something we look forward to every four years. Hubbell is a longtime supporter of the initiative and meaningful work done at Easterseals and we came to the consensus very quickly that this is who we wanted to support again in 2021. Our 2013 Extreme Build was called ‘Cabins for Campers’ after we built two-7,500 square foot Easterseals lodges in just one week for all aged campers to use,” said Hubbell President and CEO Rick Tollakson.
