Register: Massive downtown adds soccer stadium, retail to Gray's neighborhood

Plans for a professional soccer stadium in downtown Des Moines have ballooned into an ambitious, mixed-use project with more than 800 apartments, shopping, offices and two hotels across two neighborhoods in the city's core. 

Krause+, the commercial real estate arm of Kum & Go parent company Krause Group, is proposing to spend $550 million over 15 years for construction and renovation in a 2.1 million-square-foot expanse on the western edge of downtown.

The project encompasses the former Dico industrial property, which has sat vacant and blighted for decades on the east bank of the Raccoon River along Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway.
