Infrastructure work that needs to be done in advance of the construction of the proposed Pro Iowa Soccer Stadium and Global Plaza is expected to begin in spring 2026 as members of the board overseeing the project concede they won’t likely be able to close a $23.1 million funding gap.
The project, which organizers say will add to the vibrancy of downtown Des Moines and be an economic driver and draw workers to the region, will have to be re-engineered to mirror the funding that is available.
