Increasing Access
The way we live, work, and get from one place to another is evolving. While Americans once prized our automobiles as symbols of independence and prosperity, the trend today is to value things like access, convenience, and simplicity over personal vehicle ownership. Twenty years ago, owning a car was how many of us were able to go where we wanted when we wanted. As times continue to change, owning a car will change as well, especially, if things continue to go remote. While more and more people are encouraged to work from home, there is no need to own a vehicle while living downtown.
A Renaissance of Simplicity
Des Moines is among the cities that are enhancing car-free access by developing downtown neighborhoods. A flurry of construction activity downtown is giving increasing numbers of Des Moines residents the opportunity to live in the heart of the city, where they can easily access workplaces, cultural events, parks, bike paths, restaurants, nightlife, and a host of other amenities without ever getting into a car.
Communal Spaces
With access to more conveniences and entertainment outside, many young professionals are finding that in addition to saving hundreds of dollars each month on car payments, fuel, maintenance, and parking fees, they can also reduce other bills and live more comfortably with less inside their homes by choosing efficient downtown living. For example, apartment communities can provide a rich assortment of premium amenities like gyms, pools, community rooms, and shared office space, eliminating the need for gym memberships as well as allowing residents to utilize communal space for work and entertaining, which can make smaller (and less expensive) apartments feel much more comfortable.
Hubbell Realty offers a number of apartment communities throughout the Des Moines metro area, currently including downtown Court Avenue Lofts in the historic Spaghetti Works building, located in the center of Des Moines nightlife, Cityville on 9th, which features its own cinema, dog park, business center, and 24-hour gym. Along with those properties, we have a few brand-new communities - Maxwell and LINC. Maxwell is located directly across one of the most popular restaurants downtown, Malo. And within walking distance of other delicious restaurants, including Bubba and Akebono 515. The newest addition to Hubbell Realty apartment communities is LINC, which welcomed their first residents on July 1st, 2020. LINC includes all the amenities – pool, 24-hour fitness center, conference room, dog park, bicycle storage and repair room, game room, and community clubhouse with a large patio with the best views of downtown Des Moines.
Any of these communities can make the perfect place to call home!
