Reconstruction is underway at the Ashford Ridge apartment community in Urbandale after a devastating fire in early March of 2020.
The concrete is being poured to ready the site for a 36-unit apartment building that is expected to go vertical toward the end of this month. Construction is expected to continue throughout the winter months.
The building, which will have a more modern exterior and interior than the existing buildings on site, is anticipated to take an additional 8 months to build. The estimated opening date is mid-2021.
Back on March 8, 2020, one of the buildings at Ashford Ridge caught fire and destroyed all of that specific building's apartments along Patricia Drive. While all residents were able to escape unharmed, many pets were lost in the fire. Over the following spring months, Hubbell Realty Co., Urbandale assistance programs and the Red Cross helped residents find alternative places to live as well as common household and sanitary items.
